How to prepare for UPSC IFoS exam

 

Upsc conducts Indian Forest Service ( IFoS) exam every year. The exam consists of 3 stages , 1st stage is prelims, second stage is Mains and 3rd stage is Interview. Aspirants have to choose any two science topics as per Upsc guidelines, for example Forestry and Botany. The syllabus of IFos is same as other civil services exams. You’ll have to prepare just like an IAS or IPS aspirants as the Preliminary exam for both and IFos is conduct on the same day , together. You’ll have to secure higher marks in Prelims compared to other civil services (e.g IAS), to get selected for Mains.It is usually 10 to 15 marks higher than other civil Services exams.

Strategy :

1. Get good grip in optional subjects first.

Before you start giving prelims and other steps , it is advised to get enough knowledge in your two selected optional subjects you’re interested in.

2. Finish the syllabus for Indian Civil Services.

Go through the Ncert and conventional sources of study materials. For example Indian Polity by Laxmikant , Spectrums Mordern Indian History, NCERT Geography, Basic Environment, Economic survey reports and Daily news Analysis etc.

3. Practice for Prelims as it is the most difficult and unpredictable in nature. Download any 2 test series from good coaching site or channel and solve them to improve you accuracy for Preliminary exam

4. Don’t ignore Csat paper , go through previous years papers for that.

5. Study well for mains if you’re prelims is clear. You’ll get enough time to be prepared for Mains.
Make sure you that you have practiced your mains answer writing and previous years questions good enough. Some times subjects require considerable number of diagram making so learn them from the beginning.

6. Interview is more about personality than your knowledge. By that stage UPSC tested your knowledge , now they’ll test your attitude and personality. But you must stay updated with recent news and important issue related to your field and interests. It is important to secure good marks in the interview to get higher ranks, as eventually the marks of your mains exam and Interview will be added.
